Sigh of relief on the side of luxury hotels. The 2% tax applied since 1 November on hotel stays at or above 200 euros will be removed, announced on Thursday the professional organizations.
Secretary of State for Trade, Crafts, SMEs and Tourism, Frédéric Lefebvre, has made this commitment during a meeting with representatives of hotels and restaurants, they specify in a statement.
They had asked to be received as a result of the new government’s austerity plan, which includes carry the reduced VAT rate of 5.5% to 7%.
Tax price of the night duty
“The Minister has given them the assurance that the reduced VAT rate (…) complies with tax fairness and good will apply to all products and services currently taxed at 5.5% excluding commodities necessity, “the statement said.
“He also said that 2% tax on hotel stays high and mid-range would be withdrawn,” he adds.
This fee covers the cost of the tax-free night, without breakfast or any other related services charged separately, such as care in the spa of the hotel.
